Jim has been a REALTOR® since 1977 and has earned the professional designations of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) and SIOR (Society of Office and Industrial Realtors – Industrial Specialist). Jim is a past president and REALTOR® of the Year of the Southern Indiana REALTORS® Association, a member of the Indiana Commercial Board of REALTORS® (ICBR) for which he previously served as the 2019 President and was selected as ICBR’s 2016 REALTOR® of the Year. Jim is also a licensed real estate appraiser, continuing education instructor and certified tax assessment appeal representative.
Jim served as the 2012 President of the Kentucky CCIM Chapter and in 2013, served as the Regional Vice President for the CCIM Institute's Region 7 (this includes the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin, as well as the Metro St. Louis area). In 2014, Jim was appointed to the CCIM Institute's Board of Directors for the term of 2014-2019. He also has served as the 2019 Chairperson of the Institute’s Professional Standards Committee and on the steering committee for the Kentucky Commercial Real Estate Alliance (KCREA.com) since 2006. In 2012, Jim was appointed to the Clark Regional Airport Board of Directors where he now serves as Vice-President of the Board.
On January 1st, 2004, Jim and his wife, Kim Baker, CCIM, CIPS (who is also a licensed broker in Kentucky and Indiana, as well as the past 2020 President of the Kentucky CCIM Chapter), founded Baker Commercial Real Estate. Baker Commercial Real Estate has annually been recognized as one of the leading Louisville area commercial brokerage companies by Business First newspaper.
Jim is also pleased to announce that his first book, Confessions of a Commercial Real Estate Broker / Daily Lessons Learned in CRE and Life, is available for purchase on Amazon.
Prior to real estate, Jim graduated with High Honors from the University of Louisville School of Music and began his professional career while still a student at New Albany High School as a percussionist with the Louisville Orchestra. During his time with the LO, Jim eventually became Principal Percussionist during which time he performed with many of the world’s most renowned musicians. After graduation for U of L, Jim was employed for 4 years as a band, orchestra, and music theory/composition teacher at Jeffersonville High School.
Jim and his wife, Kim, have a combined 6 children and 17 grandchildren and reside in Southern Indiana (Louisville, KY MSA).
