J. Steven Martin serves as Owner, Principal Broker & Managing Director for SVN | The Martin Group specializing in the sale and leasing of industrial, multifamily, retail properties in Indiana and Kentucky. With more than 50 years of experience.
Prior to joining SVN, Martin served as a Principal Broker and as Secretary/Treasurer for RE/MAX Commercial Services / Martin Commercial. Steve brings 50 years of experience in property management, asset management, development, syndication, general contracting and brokerage for the Martin Group of companies to the table.
Martin is 3 time past President of the Apartment Association of Southern Indiana, he previously served as the SW Indiana Representative of the Indiana Commercial Board of REALTORS (ICBR) & has also previously served as President, Vice President & Secretary for ICBR. He is a founding member & former President of the Rural Rental Housing Association of Indiana (now known as the Affordable Housing Association of Indiana). He is a former Vice President of the Midwest Assisted Housing Management Agents (MAHMA) in Columbus, OH, and formerly served as a national board member of the Council for Affordable Rural Housing (CARH) in Washington, D.C. for 8 years as well as Chairman of the National Property Management Task Force. He was a founding member of the Real Estate Investment Association (REIA) and past board member of the Illinois Rural Rental Housing Association and the Indiana Apartment Association (IAA). He was Indiana Commercial REALTOR of the year in 2013 and admitted to the Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame in 2014. He was the 2019 President of the Indiana CCIM Chapter. Steve has taught within the industry and been a speaker for several academic and industry venues.
In 1998 & 1999 Martin, along with his father and brother, was selected by Ernst and Young as Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in the real estate category of the Heartland Region. The Martin's have also been the recipient of the Developer of the Year Award from the Indiana Coalition for Housing and the Homeless.
Martin holds the designations of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Certified Property Manager (CPM) He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Evansville & is a licensed broker in KY and IN.
